Growing to Packing

On our third day of the trip we visited an abattoir,or packing plant as we call it, and then visited Webb Simmentals. In the morning we went to JBS Abbitoir. For me this was a great learning experience because I haven't ever visited a packing plant before. We saw the whole line for the cattle, from the knocking to the packing. They way they knock here in the Land Down Under is a little different from the states! They could package 1,000 head a day for cattle and 5,000 for lambs. They package and eat WAY more lamb than the United States. The lines were both the same for the most part but for the cattle it was about twice as big. After we learned how they packaged the livestock we then went to the producer. We traveled on a 2 hour bus ride up north to Webb Black Simmentals. They had a very nice set up and they are also very new to the industry! They started just 5 years ago but was destroyed because of the fires that came though 3 years go. I will add pictures as soon as possible but may be a little because of the Internet problem.Stay classy,Schaake
